MOLAA Docent Guild

Be a part of the MOLAA family. Build connections, facilitate dynamic learning and share the transformative power of the arts with our local community. 

MOLAA Docents play an essential role in connecting the museum and its visitors by fostering creativity and providing engaging experiences in the museum’s galleries through guided tours and demonstrations.  

People of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds are encouraged to apply. No previous teaching experience, knowledge of art or Spanish language is required. 


Responsibilities

  • Engage visitors of all ages in conversations about Latin American art, culture, and traditions 

  • Connect with local audiences of all backgrounds, ages, learning levels and abilities 

  • Provide support and collaborate with museum staff and docent colleagues on behind the scenes educational experiences 

  • Docents conduct tours 2 times per month and attend all necessary meetings, including two Mondays per month  

  • Uphold, represent and cultivate the Museum’s guidelines and mission in a respectable manner 


Training & Time Commitment

Upon selection, MOLAA provides docent prospects with a complete 1 year in-depth training program consisting of lectures by staff and outside scholars, gallery exercises, and docent shadowing to become fully versed and prepared to give tours. 

MOLAA docents provide service for a minimum of three years. Over the course of this time, docents are required to conduct two tours per month for audiences of all ages, Tuesdays through Fridays, between 10am-2pm, or on weekends 2pm and 3pm.  All Docents attend meetings two Mondays each month for continuous education on MOLAA’s permanent collection, exhibitions, docent presentations, and best touring practices. In addition, docents support and attend exhibition walkthroughs and Member openings.
