ARTIST LISTING

Carlos Cruz-Díez

Carlos Cruz-Díez, along with Jesús Soto and Alejandro Otero, is one of the most important Kinetic and Optical artists of Venezuela. The art of Cruz-Díez is characteristic of the “optic” art movement which is based on the optical illusion created by the movement or three-dimensionality of the work.
Between 1946 and 1951, Cruz-Díez developed an interest in color theory which led to his mid-1950s exploration of European geometric abstraction and the Bauhaus School style of industrial objects. Throughout his career, he has established a signature style of constructions and multiple editions based on monochromatic or full-color spectrum palettes. This work is based on a 1950s work that optically vibrates with the motion of the viewer
