ARTIST LISTING

Antonio Seguí

Antonio Seguí studied art in Buenos Aires, Madrid and Paris during the fifties where he has lived since 1963. The art of Seguí is characterized by his critical perspective of society expressed with humor and satire. His style is generated from the figurative tradition of his country (neo-figuration), the comic-book world and pop art. Beginning in the eighties, cartoon-like figures or characters dressed in suits and hats in the styles of the forties and fifties began to appear in Seguí’s work; these figures have become characteristic of his work for the last two decades. Although the figures are reminiscent of the French Surrealist artist, Francés Magritte, they can also be a reference to the artist himself, possibly as a self-portrait or an alter-ego.
